To get us started, here are Los Hombres G with some accompaniment.
We arrived to the Venice area on a cold rainy night. Our first evening we stayed with a young man in his family's big beautiful house in a small village away from the city. This man was a very serious Trekkie; he was a nerdy delight.
The next day we went out to the floating city on the sea. There is a long bridge to Venice, and although most people park on the mainland and take a bus there, we determined we would be able to find some handicapped parking on the edge of the city. Indeed we did find a free spot to park. We even slept in the car there the next night.
The city of Venice is a series of artificial islands created by sinking tree trunks down to the clay lagoon bottom and building foundations on top of them. The lagoon that the city sits on is fairly anaerobic, so the logs decay very slowly. Nonetheless, the city has sunk a fair amount over time and each year especially high tides cause the walkways of the city to be submerged under water.
We spent two days exploring this labyrinth of canals and narrow walkways. This city is well known by many, so I will refrain from unnecessary elaboration.
