Javier is from Madrid, Spain. Born in Madrid to a Spanish father and Swiss mother, Javier knows both worlds. In his early 20's, he left Spain and traveled to the USA to study a doctorate. Living in Los Angeles, California, he spent the next eight years researching the brain and writing artificial intelligence software. In 2005, he completed his dissertation on visual navigation and visual recognition systems, and needed a break. He decided to start traveling around the western U.S. on his bicycle. For the next three years, he visited the national parks, monuments, and cities of the west. On his way around Montana, he met Alia.
Alia is from Missoula, Montana. Her family immigrated to Montana from Norway and Hungary in the early 1900's. She has always been in love with the outdoors. At the age of 15, she started backpacking and mountaineering. Her attraction to the natural world only grew, and at the age of 16 she went to university to study forestry. It was during her studies that she met Javier. In 2010, after only four months of knowing each other, they were married. Shortly after, they began to travel extensively.
This blog is a record of our travels together. Here you will find stories of people we meet, history of places we visit, recipes from all over the world, and lots and lots of photos. We will update the site as frequently as our schedules allow. We hope that you enjoy our site!
